Get Help to Buy Health Insurance
Annual open enrollment at the Health Insurance Marketplace usually runs from November 1 to December 15. Learn about new plans and any changes in an existing plan's participating providers, services, medications, and costs. See how insurance and help with payments work and about plans available in your area – all on the Internet at https://www.healthcare.gov or the Marketplace Call Center 1-800-318-2596
(TTY 1-855-889-4325)
Enroll or re-enroll annually for insurance coverage.
The Marketplace is the link to find the health insurance policies available for purchase in Virginia that best meet your needs and budget. It will allow you to check to see if you qualify for Marketplace insurance programs, compare costs and benefits of different policies, and to submit an electronic application if you decide to do so. You may also apply by mail or phone.
During the annual open enrollment a limited number of trained specialists (called Navigators or Certified Application Counselors) offer workshops and in-person advice. Insurance agents also are available to help you select a plan. Insurance agents are paid by health insurance companies; Navigators and Certified Application Counselors must be impartial and may not charge for their help. Visit Enroll Virginia! online to find sources of local help.

Will I be eligible for financial assistance?
Enter your income and family information online for a quick idea of the amount of help, if any, for which you should qualify. This is not the official subsidy calculator but one developed by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. It is used by many Navigators and Certified Application Counselors.
If are HIV positive and are going to need more help paying for your health insurance than is offered through the Marketplace, arrange this help through the Medication Assistance Program, 1-855-362-0658. Be sure you have this help approved before you sign up.

Does everyone need to buy health insurance through the Marketplace?
People who already have private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid probably will not need to buy insurance in the Marketplace. Marketplace insurance is available to US citizens and legal residents. The website can help you quickly decide if you are eligible for this program.
