Housing/Homelessness

Cost of housing is one of the largest items in the budgets of families living throughout Northern Virginia. The National Low Income Housing Coalition suggests in its Out of Reach 2017 report that a family would need to earn nearly $33.58 per hour in order to afford the average 2-bedroom apartment in the region.

A complex array of local, state, and federal government and private programs exist to help modest income residents get and keep housing. Temporary shelter and transitional housing are also available for families and individuals working to pull themselves out of homelessness.
