Need to Talk?

Coping with the diagnosis of HIV and/or AIDS can lead to all kinds of feelings:  fear, anger, sadness, confusion, and perhaps even thoughts that your life is over.

Often friends and family can help you deal with these feelings.  Mental health professionals can treat depression, severe anxiety and other feelings that interfere with your ability to cope with life and HIV/AIDS.  But, sometimes there are things that you do not feel you can reveal to friends or family, or you don't think you need professional help, or you are not sure what you need.

You can call a network of more than 130 crisis centers across the country at any time by dialing 1-800-273-TALK (8255).  Crisis centers provide:

  • crisis line workers
  • trained volunteers
  • immediate, free, confidential assistance
  • problem-solving skills
  • information on community resources
  • empathetic listening
  • coping tools to deal with emotional trauma and personal and family crisis
