(Fairfax, VA – February 8, 2018) Recent data reveals the number of net-metered solar arrays in Northern Virginia grew by 31% in 2017. The number arrays grew from 851 in 2016 to 1,116 in 2017. The rated capacity of those systems grew from 6,615 kW (6.6 MW) to 8483 kW (8.4 MW).

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission along with its local government partners, the Local Energy Alliance Program and the Piedmont Environmental Council have been promoting the Solarize NoVA campaign in the region since 2014. In the Fall of 2014 the Commission set a 1000 rooftop challenge – the latest data smashes through the goal set by the Commission.

In total, the Solarize NoVA campaigns have resulted in 196 contracts for solar arrays with a rated capacity in excess of 1.5 MW and a construction value of $4,761,403. The campaign utilizes local, Virginia based solar installers to undertake the work.

The Spring Solarize campaign will kick off on April 2 with multiple local government and not-for-profit partners. Information about Solarize NoVA can be found at www.solarizenova.org.
