[ARCHIVED] NoVA Cyber Roadmap an Important Resource

The comments below are from three different teachers at Prince William County Public Schools who have begun to utilize the information we have developed on the web site – www.novacyberroadmap.com as part of NVRC’s Community/Military/Federal Facility Partnership Committee effort related to building a cyber job ready region.

The web site is one of a number initiatives recommended from the Cyber Conference we co-hosted last June. Enhancing and linking this information with the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative and the Tech Talent Pipeline will make it even more powerful.

The web site is still a work in progress. We are working with George Mason University to transition the web site over to them to ensure its continuous long term updating and maintenance. At the moment, we are fortunate to have the expert assistance of three Fairfax County Public School students (they attended our March Commission meeting) who have helped with researching content and making edits to the site.

“With so many cyber-related job openings in our area, it is imperative that we do everything we can to educate and train current and next generation cyber security professionals.  As a computer science educator, the question I am most often asked is “how do I get the specialized training required to qualify for a computer science or cyber security job”.  The Northern Virginia Cyber Training NoVACyberRoadmap Quote& Education Roadmap is a new website chock-full of educational resources, information on apprenticeships, pathways, job openings, and cyber-related events.  Using this easy-to-use website, you can quickly map an educational path toward certifications whether you are starting as a high school or college student, a transitioning service member, or a veteran.  There are also many continuing education resources for current cyber professionals and educators.  The Northern Virginia Cyber Training & Education Roadmap was created to address cyber talent shortfalls in our region and has effectively created a great starting point for addressing that shortfall!”

“This site is fantastic!  Students that want to plan a path to success in the field of Cyber Security can be a daunting and difficult task.  Access to this site will allow students to find cyber courses being offering in their area, look for apprenticeships, check which colleges offer cyber programs, and even check what jobs are available in the D.C. metro area. I especially like that upcoming events of all cyber activities can be viewed in one place.  Students can prepare for a career in Cyber with the resources being offered on this website.”

“I thought it was a great idea to list (not really about comparing) the classes offered in all our neighboring counties.  And to add the Postsecondary options near us, brilliant.”

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission is proud to see this effort is making a positive difference.
