The Northern Virginia Regional Commission’s highly successful solar campaign with the Local Energy Alliance Program, local government partners and local solar companies has kicked off. Since 2014 the campaign has resulted in 690 contracts for 6.2 MW of solar and nearly $18 million in private sector investment. You can view the data on the projects on our Solarize NoVA Installation Dashboard.
Determine Your Solar Potential
Several years ago NVRC pioneered the first of its kind regional map in the Commonwealth of Virginia to help homeowners and/or businesses determine the solar potential of their home or building. The Northern Virginia Solar Map provides estimates on how large an array can fit on your roof, the energy it can generate, potential cost savings and environmental benefit. While nothing takes the place of an on-site assessment the solar map provides the information to begin the conversation.
Solarize NoVA Campaign Website
The Commission and our local government partners are pleased to be able to provide this program to the residents and businesses in our region. By participating in the program residents are able to receive reduced prices and work with vetted local solar installers. The installers for the 2023 campaign are Prospect Solar and Solar Energy World.
There are three FREE webinars that are taking place this summer to help answer questions that people may have regarding the program, the process, etc. Visit the Solarize NoVA web site for more information and how to register for a webinar.
Help Reduce Your Energy Use
Even if solar is not the right fit for you for the moment, there are a number of energy efficiency programs that can help you reduce your energy use. Some may be at no cost to the resident depending on age and/or income. There are numerous new Federal tax credits available as the result of the Inflation Reduction Act to help residents improve the efficiency of their heating and or cooling equipment. Visit our NVRC Energy web site for details.
